This Is Skinhead is a documentary photobook by Cardiff-based photographer Tom Wilkins, exploring contemporary skin culture through identity, loyalty, brotherhood, music, style and belonging.
Developed over more than a year, the project began with Wilkins entering the culture as an outsider. Through photographing, listening and spending time with people within the scene, it developed into a collaborative record of contemporary skin culture in Britain and beyond.
The book combines Wilkins' documentary photography with personal archives, contributed photographs, memories and first-person accounts from people within the culture itself.
Rather than attempting to define the culture from the outside, This Is Skinhead allows different experiences and perspectives to exist alongside one another - documenting the friendships, contradictions, histories and sense of belonging that continue to shape the scene today.
Featuring a foreword by Katie Owen, contributions include photographer and Skins author Gavin Watson, musician Jenny Woo, Justin 'Mooch' DeLoretto.
